As one of the important poets in mid-Tang Dynasty, Yuan Zhen has importantsignificance in the history of poetry. The study of Yuan Zhen can make us understandthe change of his poetry style in mid-Tang Dynasty. At present, the research on himdone by scholars mostly focus on the aspects of his life, thoughts and poetries etc. It’srare to study the change of his poetry style and his behaviors from the psychologyangle, thus from which the essay just does a thorough research on the period of YuanZhen’s staying from Jiangling to Tong Zhou.The chapter1talks about the inevitability of Yuan Zhen’s being relegated toJiangling. Yuan Zhen who was full of talents and abilities, but sharp-tempered andstraight, lacked politicians’ rational calm, so he got no chance to show himself. Whileat that time, the eunuchs and military governors had already developed into apowerful group. It’s unavoidable for the collision between Yuan Zhen against thepowerful group. In order to reduce the unnecessary trouble, the group led by theeunuchs, multiple powers united to crowd out Yuan Zhen on the pretext of thecontention in Fushui courier station, and then he was relegated to Jiangling.The chapter2discusses Yuan’s mentality during the period in Jiangling whenYuan Zhen fell into a waiting anxiety soon, for the heart of getting promoted did notextinguish. At first, he expected some upright people such as Pei Ji to admit hisintegrity and timely help him get rid of relegation. But with Pei Ji’s passing away andthe loss of core identity in his exile life, he began to lay his hope on Yan Shou and CuiTanjun belonging to his political opponents–eunuchs and military governors. In thehope of rely ing on them, he still stood the torment of waiting.The chapter3explores the mentality of Yuan Zhen’s in Tongzhou when he has noambition to stage a comeback and fight against the eunuchs and military governors,Living in the harsh environment of Tong Zhou, he began to worry about his life andhis ambition gradually disappeared. He adjusted his mentality from the original " formonarch" to " for himself", starting with little things around and doing them, and triedhis best to realize his individual value. The chapter4tells us the change of the mentality has an influence on hissubsequent outlook on life and values.Yuan Zhen’s life appeared both "care society",and "enjoy himself",This is the consequences of Yuan Zhen’s relegation form Janglingto Tongzhou.
