The Survey Of The "Ghost" Of "Zuo Zhuan"

As one of historical and biographic literatures in the Pre-Qin Period,“Zuo Zhuan” wasalways appreciated by scholars because of its rich content, unique narrative style andexquisite writing skills. Behind these ingenious combinations, scholars also criticized thatthere were a lot of ghost contents in the informatively narrative events in “Zuo Zhuan”. Thesecontents were showed by participating in national political life and people’s daily life andwere named as “Ghost” in this paper. At the same time, there were various types in thesecontents which related to every aspect of social and political of Spring and Autumn Centuryand combined people’s peculiar destiny concept, consciousness of life and the awareness oftimes together. This thesis made “Ghost” as a starting point and explored the behind profoundconnotation of culture and unique concept of life with the cultural origins and the suffereddestiny concept which were generated from these contents.There are three chapters in the main part of this thesis.Chapter One explored that the “Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan” is the product which isinfluenced by the culture of a particular era from both the origin of the culture and the spiritsof ghost. The cultural origins of “Ghost” were analyzed based on the culture ofhistoriographers and istorical and biographic literatures. As for the discussion of spirits ofghost, this paper compared the “Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan” and the ghost spirits of the literaticlass who is the most representative in Spring and Autumn Century and came to theconclusion that destiny concept which focused on the literati class’s fete and the awareness oflife which were represented by life and death are the characteristics of the “Ghost” of “ZuoZhuan”.Chapter Two comprehensively analyzed the types and the ways of the presentation of the“Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan”. Firstly, the situation of the presence of the “Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan”was introduced on the basis of comprehensive understanding of it. In the next part, the ghostof nature, life, life and death in the “Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan” were restored on the aspects oftimes and events followed by analyzing that these three kinds of ghost recorded a lot of ghostcontents without breaking the personnel theory of praising virtue and punishing vice and the writing rules of historical and biographic literatures.Chapter Three discussed the death and life ghost’s influence on Chinese literature andculture. This part found the main way of ghost revenge in Spring and Autumn Century and itsinfluence of later Chinese literature by analyzing the types of ghost revenge with soul to lifeand death in detail. From the point of the color, another part discussed the phenomenon thatthe “Ghost” of “Zuo Zhuan”favoured three colors and these three colors’ influence on laterliterature.The conclusion restated the clues and the important points of this paper in order toextend the discussion of this topic.
