With the rapid development of video game industry, the large numbers of audiences and its huge economic profit has attracted more and more game developers’attention. In the course of development of video game like a raging fire, it has become a hot topic among game designers and researchers that how to design a video game which can attract game players’interest to the greatest extent, and let the game players forget themselves and release themselves completely in the course of the gameplay to enjoy the beauty of the game and improve the their loyalty degree to video games.Audio plays a decisive role in improving subjective immersion state. On one hand, audio can foil game atmosphere to create a realistic game environment, letting the player get pleasure during the game and enjoy the enjoyment like arts; on the other hand, audio makes the finishing point in enhancing the artistic appeal of the game software, promoting the development of plot and deepening the theme in video games. It is safely to say that the game audio has become an important and essential part of optimizing video gaming experience.In the studies about the video games, the gaming experience of players is alway treated as an important regulating factor. The players with different gaming experience perform differently in the ability of stability and selectivity of attention.task switching capability and inhibition attention ability. High gamers will also desensitize to the game conditions. Considered these phenomenons, the gaming experience is also regarded as an independent variable to investigate whether it would interact with game audio to exert influences on the immersion state of participants during gameplay.In order to get a convincing result, this research employed various ways to measure immersion level, including immersion questionnaire, physiological index (GSR and EMG) during gameplay and performance after video game.On the basis of consideration above, three experiments were designed in a logical and progressive way. The main purpose of Experiment1is to discuss the influence of on/off of video game audio on players’immersion level; the main purpose of Experiment2is to discuss the influence of matching degree of video and audio in game on players’immersion level; the main purpose of Experiment3is. under the perfect match of video and audio of game, to discuss the influence of different elements of game audio on players’immersion level, and the time history influence of audio on immersion is also added in this experiment.The results showed that:1) the low gamers enjoyed higher immersion among gameplay when the video games was played with audio than without it, but no significant differences existed in high gamers;2) the low gamers enjoyed higher immersion among gameplay when the video games was played with a perfect match between video and audio than mismatchment of them, but no significant differences existed in high gamers;3) the low gamers enjoyed higher immersion among gameplay when the video games was played with music than without it and there is a significant effect on time history analysis, but no significant differences existed in high gamers;4) the immersion questionnaire, physiological index (GSR) during gameplay and performance after video game all are reliable ways to measure immersion level.The interactive video games in the future will no doubt optimize the plavers’overall perception of game by improving the sound quality and increasing the role of auditory features. So far, it is still scarce to investigate how audio affects game player’s experience in video games. Therefore, the topic of this research is novel and practical which is on behalf the future develop direction of video games industry. We hope that this series of empirical research can provide reliable data for the topic of the influence of video game audio on game players’subjective immersion and lay a solid foundation for further research in this field.
