Zhuzhi Poem, originated in southwest of China, is a kind of folk song in the classical style devoted to local topics. As a literature form describing natural conditions and social customs of a place, Zhuzhi Poem has attracted attention from literary circle for a long time. It is also a treasure-house for local culture and folk customs. Zhuzhi Poem of Qing Dynasty reaches the climax of its development, reflecting the social life and culture of that period from many perspectives.The poet Zhi Rui of late Qing Dynasty went from Zhangjiakou, a city near Beijing, to Uliastai in Mongolia to take office as local officer. He went through64post houses (The Central Government of Qing Dynasty set post houses in Mongolia region, which link the local government representative office, Central Government representative office and border county as well as banners) during the journey, greatly impressed by the unfamiliar natural scenery, local people, and social customs. So he wrote100Kuoxuan Zhuzhi poems, full of distinctive local cultural features, to depict natural scenery and local custom of Mongolia. The poems also show the hard journey to Uliastai and the depression of the author caused by exile and the anxiety that he can not serve the county. This paper, by focusing on Zhi Rui’s Kuoxuan Zhuzhi Poem, analyzes local culture and the emotional connotation embodied in the poems from the perspective of literary geography.The introduction introduces the background information of the author Zhi Rui and his works as well as the research status of this topic at present. It also reveals the significance of my study, research method applied and the framework of this paper.Chapter one and Chapter two, depict the natural scenery of Mongolia and the local objects with Mongolian features in Kuoxuan Zhuzhi Poem, showing the unique landscape of Mongolia.Chapter three illustrates the Mongolian customs by applying folk custom theory.Chapter four analyzes the local cultural image in the work and illustrates the difference and linkage between natural geographic image and human geographic image.Chapter five dwells on the cultural connotation of geographical names in the work and illustrates the natural and human geographic feature embodied in them from the perspective of language culture.Chapter six, by using regional poem theory, analyzes the art style of Kuoxuan Zhuzhi Poem so as to demonstrate the charm of art created by local culture.
