There has been a lot of arguments on the Sdandard around the studyof modern Chinese grammar. Rrom Word-based systerm of Ma Shi Wen Tongto Sentence-based systerm of The New Chinese Grammar, to Phrase-basedsysterm of Zhu Dexi, Character-based systerm of Xu Tongqiang and Clausecentral theory of Xing Fuyi, the most fundamental disagreement concerns:Which syntactical unit should we take as the sdandard, as to create thegrammar systerm more comprehensively, more conveniently and with lesseffort. Among all thses theories, Phrase-based systerm of Zhu Dexi arousedthe strongest repercussions, so that such many teaching materials inModern Chinses established grammar systerm with phrase as the standard.Though consensus was reached on the importance of the grammaticalunit phrase in academic field of Chinese grammar, grammarians who regardephrase as the standard establish quite different grammarsysterms, including those in different teaching materials. It inevitablycauses inconvenience and bewilderment to Chinese research and Chineseteaching.Accordingly, this article selects typical teaching materials inmodern Chinese which take phrase as the standard (Modern Chinese byHuang Borong&Liao Xudong and General Theory Of Modern Chinese by ShaoJingmin mainly),contrasting their phrase systerms with that inExplanations On Grammar. We hold that the latter is more rational. Atthe same time, inadequacies still esist in Zhu Dexi’s phrase systerm. At last, we will pick up suggested solutions on the basis of thecomparison. The paper can be mainly divided into the following sereral sections:Chapter one, Introduction. Statement the origins of writing, definitize the purpose we want to achieve, define the scope of the research, and shed light on relevant problems.Chapter two, straighten out, comment and summarize the relevantliterature, make the development of related issues clear, point out thedefects and deficiencies in related issues, confirm the contents andmethod of the writing.Chapter three, skeletonize for the phrase systerm in the teachingmaterials we have selected, to highlight the contrast effects, and thensummarize the contrast effects, thus propose the question and obtainsthe revelation.Chapter four, esamine directional phrase, appositive phrase andpivotal phrase separately from the independence of the members in thephrase systerm, suggest that directional phrase and appositive phrasebelong to subordinate phrase, and pivotal phrase belongs to the phrasewith verbal constructions in series.Chapter five, esamine measure word phrase and auxiliary word phraseseparately from integrity of the phrase sesterm, demonstrate that“numeral+measure” is a phrase but not a word, which belongs tosubordinate phrase; and the auxiliary word phrase should be regardedas an independent list just as prepositional phrase.Chapter six, discuss the issue of function classification and thedistinction between agglutinating-style and combination-style which onlybe saw in Explanations On Grammar. This chapter will offer a proposalto cancel the function classification, meanwhile value the distinctionbetween agglutinating-style and combination-style. Chapter seven, nail down the name of the grammatical unit phrase:combinations made up by one notional word and another notional word wouldbe called words (Cizu), the others made up by one notional word and onefunction word would be called structure (Jiegou), and both the twoconstitute phrase (Duanyu). Finally we will draw a chart view for thephrase systerm of modern Chinese which tends to be more reasonable.Chapter eight, conclusion. Summarize the major findings of the study, propose the research conclusions, innovations and shortcomings.
