Shaolin artery at Mt.Songshan is the birthplace of China’s ZenBuddhism and has exerted profound and lasting influence on the Buddhist thoughts all over the world. The finely painted Mural Five Hundred Arhats Worshipping Pilu (the Buddha) form the MingDynasty (1368-1644AD) with a great imposing manner has both aesthetic value and artistic value. This article, taking the painting itself, its forming causes and conditions as the headlines.is devoted to the research, scientific analysis and comparative study of the Mural from the academic point of view, and reveals the unique artistic features and aesthetic value of the traditional murals in the central plain area of China.With strict thinking and flexible techniques, the article discusses the mural’s forming causes, conditions, its artistic features, the comparative study of murals of the same age and the realistic importance of the Zen Buddhism art and ink painting art in with five parts, and obtains the author’s own research conclusions, which gives the Mural an exact fixed artistic position. It determines that the Mural in the Shaolin Monastery is a high-level master piece of fine combination between the Zen manner and the thought of ink painting images. The Mural’s academic standing and influence is of most outstanding importance and it fills a gap of Buddhist mural paintings of no the Ming Dynasty ones in the temples in the central plain areas of China.
