Research On The Imput, Exhibition And Projection Of American Films In Shanghai District (1896—1949)

The projection of American films in Shanghai district is a historical phenomenon which is complicated and meaningful before1949. The American films which are released in Shanghai’s cinemas are not only a kind of video consumption of entertainment, but also the replacement of the culture value’s input through image. This is a significant historical phenomenon in the early movie history due to the dual connotations of cultural and economic. In Chinese films’history, American films stimulate the establishment and growth of Chinese folk films by their mature movie experience, and promote Chinese early movie industry’s initiation and development through the market competition with native films.This thesis designates Shanghai district as the research range of American films’ projection. At the same time, it combines with the special political pattern, economic trend and cultural events of early time of Shanghai, reveals the different manifestations of American films in different time of China from a historical perspective, and cleans up skeleton of special industrial pattern and market projection system of Shanghai’s early time under monopoly of American film market. Also, this thesis analyses the complicated relationship between American films and Chinese films from the synchronic angle, and looks for the historical experience and method to deal with the strong input of Hollywood.
