Illness is closely linked with Luxun’s whole life.Luxun’ unique medical thinking pattern results from the painful witness of his relatives’illness and death in his youth, painful experience of suffering from illness because of his poor health and the experience as a medical student in Japan as well as his lifetime focus on medicine. All his works, especially novels, are filled with the image of illness and its narration. This paper, beginning with the relationship between Luxun and medicine, on the basis of his experience of suffering from illness and his medical thinking pattern, is trying to explore the effect of medicine on artistic presentation ways of his novels.Luxun’s experience of suffering from illness and knowledge of medicine greatly contribute to the image-building in his novels. To begin with, most characters suffer from illness either physically or mentally in Nahan and Panghuang. Luxun’s description of their symptom is so vivid that it’s like the real pathological symptom. At the same time, he revealed the cause of illness from the perspective of material and spirit. Moreover, there isn’t the role of the doctor"in nearly all Luxun’s works, one of the most important characters in doctor-patient relationship. Therefore, it is luxun’experience of a medical student that made the only image of doctor full and thought-provoking.Finally,China is like a hospital in Luxun’s works, nearly all people in Nahan and Panghuang are burdened with illnesses either physically or mentally.Beyond the physical illnesses, the Luxun’s skillfulness is embodied in the characters’widespread suffering mental illnesses and its reflection of social problems. The artistic presentation ways of Luxun’s novels are deeply affected by the medicine thinking formed form his experience of suffering form illness and acquiring medicine.First of all, having acquired the characters and functions of visual contact, diagnosing a disease and treatment, Luxun is gradually influenced by the pattern of remedying a patient, which enables him to form the typical writing pattern of " fall ill---remedy-live or die"using the procedure of remedying when narrating with the assistance of medical image. In addition, a great deal of use of medical terms acquaint the readers with medical knowledge. While Luxun sustains his everlasting focus on illnesses beyond those professional terms. Therefore, his novels are all along full of deep flavor of medicine.Besides,Luxun is as calm as a doctor holding a scalpel, which makes him create cold even callous atmosphere in his novels. While Luxun is also as passionate as flames, which is in his ice-like calmness. Therefore, the writing style of putting warmth into coldness is formed in Luxun’novels. Finally,Luxun’use of illness as the bridge to connect realism and symbolism enables him to enrich his works based on truth, which makes his thought expressive.
