Translation Strategies Of Images In Mao Zedong’s Poems On Xu Yuanchong’s "Three Beauties"

Mao Zedong, a great metrical poet, creates many famous works, most of which represent the School of Literature at that time together with the academic atmosphere. The poems of Mao are regarded as the dazzling pearl in Chinese literature, consisting of the historical events in New-Democracy Revolution in China and the Construction Period of New China.Mao Zedong is a good imagist poet, who proposes lots of new thoughts on modern poetry image on the basis of the Chinese Classical Poetry, in which case, the distinct image groups come into being in his literature works. In some respect, reproducing all of the images can unfold the soul of poems, which will be a success for translators if translated properly. The great three stages have witnessed the poems of Mao. The author makes an analysis of the basic translation strategies of the two important images (static images and dynamic images) from the five English versions in China.This paper is based on Xu’s "Three Beauties" Theory. Finally, the main principles and skills of translating the poems can be summed up as "Three Transformations","Deeply-Transformed","Equally-Transformed" and "Superficially-Transformed" strategies. Strengths and weaknesses as they possess, the translators can reach the target of inter-communication with distinct poems in different languages. The three strategies also play a vital role in reproducing the sense beauty of a poem. Therefore, a good translator should choose the proper way and take the theme of a poem, the author’s emotions and the readers’acceptance ability into account. Meanwhile, the author makes her own comments on the defects of Xu’s translation versions of Mao’s poems and gives the proper suggestions in the hope of providing the beginners with some tips.
