The Research On The Artistic Style Of Chagall

As a distinguished painter, Marc Chagall, who was a bright star among other famousartists in the twentieth century with his unique characteristics in his works, such as thegorgeous vibrant colours, interesting symbolic images, poetic uninhibited expressions and thewealthy Russian&Jewish culture. Chagall was born in the Jewish ghetto in eastern part ofRussia, studied in St. Petersburg and finally achieved his own unique artistic style in Paris.Chagall experienced hard times through two world wars, but also won his honor and socialstatus because of his works. In his long artistic career, he maintained a love of the homelandand the exuberant artistic creativity, expressed the love to his hometown.In this article, the discussion is according to the five different periods during Chagall’slife, summarizes the formation of his artistic style according to the characteristics in each timeperiod based on his learning journey. In addition, the further analysis of the formation andevolution of Chagall artistic style is performed by comparing his works in different timeperiods. The analysis focuses on the perspective of images, compositions, colours and workmedia to analyze the main characteristics and the expression of aesthetic temperament ofChagall’s artistic style. Finally, Chagall’s work preference and his creation concepts areanalyzed. They are the important factors in formation of Chagall’s artistic style and the basicspirit through his art works.
