Idioms are the crystallization of Chinese culture, which high frequently appear inChinese everyday speech. The Overseas students are very interested in them as well,because they can understand the colorful Chinese culture through it. But be different fromthe modern Chinese, Chinese idioms retain the mark of the ancient culture. So it has acertain degree of difficulty for Overseas students in the learning process that leads toproduce some errors out of our expectation when in use.Therefore, based on the existing research results, firstly we collected the compositionsof the Overseas students through the HSK dynamic compositions corpus and counted upthe correct rate of the Chinese idioms students used to explore the extent of languagelearning. Then it will focus on the used wrong Chinese idioms to the systematicclassification, all which are reserved seats to find the wrong types. And next, analyzing theerrors one by one from the subjective and objective perspective to explain why the errorsoccur. Finally, having a definite object in view to propose solutions to find out more waysfor teaching Chinese as a foreign language of the Chinese idioms.By analyzing more than three hundreds sentences, we found that the studentsbelonging to Chinese cultural circle usually use the idioms, especially the Singapore’sstudents, and the European and American students avoid them. But among the sentences,there are used incorrectly idioms. We divide them into four types: form errors, semanticserrors, pragmatics errors and match errors. Finally, we give some practical teachingstrategies from textbooks, teaching methods, teaching and reference books.
