Nonverbal communication is one important kind of means which can exchange ideas,send messages and express one’s emotions in intercultural communication. It has the samefunction in the class of Teaching Chinese as a second language. When overseas studentsfrom high context recieve nonverbal signals, they will explain it as their way of thinkingwhich is very different with the students from low context and lots of misunderstandingsmay take place in such circumstances. This article sorts the nonverbal issues that effectstudents and makes a comparison between high and low context by questionnaire. Byinvestigating, we select three nonverbal phenomena in Chinese class to analyse the culturalmeaning and the nonverbal theory, and the three phenomena are silence, teaching inpodium and being late for class. The aim of this article is to make students who learnChinese as a sencond language understand Chinese culture better, increase their capacity ofintercultural communication and raise the level of teaching quality.
