It is vital to history of civilization that we have invented chariots and used themextensively. Kaogongji is the first composition which keeps the regulations ofmanufacturing technology in China, and there are many records about the system ofchariots and skills about how to make them in XianQin in LunRen、YuRen、ZhouRen andCheRen. This paper, basing on ancient literatures,absorbing achievements of Archeologyand combining Exegesis, Archeology and the history of science and technology, attemptsto give an explanation to the construction and the variation of chariots. What’s more, wewill explain the construction and the variation of chariots using the knowledge of scienceand technology, study deeply the annotation of Zheng Xuan、Jia Gong-yan、Sun Yi-rangabout Zhou, uncover the reason why people named these parts of chariots. We choosetypical parts of the chariot to analyze them. We try to provide facts and theories for theresearch about ancient chariot, so that we can deepen the study of origin of the names.This paper is made up by four parts: the first part is introduction which talks about thesource and development of chariots and the system of chariots in Kaogongji. Moreover, weattempt to give a introduction of the present research、our purpose and methods. In thesecond part, we do some research about the system of LunGu in chariots in Kaogongji, tryto find the reason why people named Gu、Fu、Ya、Zhou and analysis their constructionand development. The third part is about origin of the names of Yu、 Zhou、 Gai inKaogongji and gives an explanation about the reason why people named that as before. Wedescribe the introduction of chariots in detail. In the end, we will summarize the type ofmotivation of words and analyze the motivation of chariots’words in Kaogongji.
