"People’s Daily"(front page) is the source of selected materials about the "masses", the paper is to analyze the "masses" in the semantics and context of the Communist Party of China in different historical periods. The paper points out and analyzes two changes about "masses" from the class struggle to economic development and to the people’s livelihood. By analyzing the two changes, we can make an attempt to acknowledge the methods of the Chinese Communist Party’s power and the details of the Chinese political change. Power-masses-identity will be the theoretical framework of paper’s thesis and demonstration logic.Political subject through the operation of power, the use of a positive political discourse to construct the identity of the social object, and through specific social status to gain political support in order to maintain its political legitimacy. In the Communist Party of China leadership of the revolutionary war and the early founding of New China, the political discourse of the masses through the power operation shape class identity, to gain political legitimacy and political effectiveness, to maintain social functioning and development. With the start of the political and economic reform, the class attribute of the masses is translating to mixed identity, combined with class and society. After the1990s, the "masses" is to point about the individual rights and livelihood.The paper has three parts. The first is to the political party with revolutionary ideology figures the class identity by the "masses" discourse; the second is to analyze the period of transition; the third is to the legal and social recognition of the "mass" political discourse.
