Study On The Change Of The Mainstream Ideology Discourse Of The People’s Republic Of China

Ideology discourse system, with the diversity and versatility of its connotation, is a complicated concept and all-including practice program. It is the summation of people’s cognition and identification of the world as well as their beliefs. In political life, ideology discourse system is considered as the guideline which decides the related rules, principles, goals and future tendency.In China, ideology discourse system, a special kind of discourse and the typical localization of Marxism discourse, plays a very important and special role in the state political life. The change of ideology discourse system in China can be best demonstrated through the variation and development of the core discourse of the People’s Daily, which is actually the formal media controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. Ever since the birth of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, the People’s Daily, which is under the direct leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, has expressed the political ideas of both the Party and the government. And its core discourse has recorded the growth and change of the Chinese ideology discourse system. For over six decades, the core discourse of the People’s Daily has great impact on the political, economic, cultural as well as diplomatic areas in China and has assumed the function of the mainstream ideology discourse which has been accepted by the general public.The reasons why the author tends to choose ideology as the point of view or means to study the change of ideology discourse system in China are the following. Firstly, it is a case of inevitability instead of necessity to take a certain point of view or media in the cognition and identification of the world. Otherwise, it is not likely for anyone to achieve the goal of getting to know the world.Secondly, ideology, with its great social implications, can better explain the complex interrelationship between the change of ideology discourse system, especially core discourse system, in China and the current reality; and what’s more, from the aspect of ideology, it is likely to find out the general common rules of the change of discourse as well as social development. Of course, ideology can not be taken as a master key; it is just a kind of hint or inspiration in the study of Chinese discourse system. The systematically research of discourse system should also be conducted from other perspectives besides ideology.
