Since1920when women first got the rights to vote in America, the politicalstatus of American women has been improved greatly. But women still lackrepresentation on the decision-making table in American politics. Fully taking part insocial production and working hard to improve their all-around abilities, Americanwomen have demonstrated many special merits at work which could help make thembetter politicians. So this thesis believes that, although many obstacles coming fromsociety and family are still hindering them from pursuing their political careers,equipped with appropriate strategies, American women politicians will be able tomake their due contributions to the nation and earn a bright career future.And this thesis mainly conducts an analysis of women’sexperience-accumulating process in American politics today from the perspective ofAmerican women at grass roots level. Through exploring the opportunities forwomen to pursue political careers, discussing how women may overcome variouschallenges and difficulties, and drawing lessons from the political experiences ofHillary Rodham Clinton, this thesis attempts to provide some useful advice forAmerican women at grass roots level who intend to start their political careers. Thebody of the thesis falls into three parts. The first part mainly describes theimprovement of women’s abilities and their performance in modern Americanpolitics. The second part stresses the negative effects of social and family challengeson women’s political careers. And the third part makes a case study of the politicalexperiences of Hillary Clinton. And it comes to the conclusion that, with socialprogress and economic development, more and more American women will take partin politics.
