The carriage of goods by sea plays an important role in international economicexchanges throughout the history. Nowadays, ocean shipping carries more than80%of goods in the world. The system of carrier’s liability is the key to figure out therelationship between carriers and merchants what helps us know better of the law ofcarriage of goods by sea.This paper has been divided into five parts. Part1introduces the carrier’s liabilityin Ancient Maritime Law. Part2focuses on the carrier’s liability rules of the RomanLaw. Part3introduces the carrier’s liability in Medieval Era Maritime Law. Part4isabout the liability in Modern Era Maritime Law. Last but not least, Part5is trying towork out on the differences of carrier’s liability among the important internationalCarriage of Goods Rules.The author really hope this paper can find some glimmers of the regular patternand core to explain the development in carrier’s liability rule.
