Singapore, a majority-Chinese country, is dominated by Confucian culture. Sincethe implementation of industrial policies in1960s, Singapore’s economy has beendeveloping rapidly and the material civilization has been improving greatly as well.But meanwhile, the contradictions between western culture and native culture havegenerated huge impact to the development of the state and society. In such a dilemma,the government of Singapore established a social value system, which is dominatedConfucian culture, designed to enhance social and cultural identity for their membersand therefore build a complete political identification system with the key point oftraditional Confucianism. It has effectively changed the ethos of society and thus hassuccessfully enabled the country to smoothly manage the period of transition resultingfrom economic development. The meaning of Singapore political identity is that thepeople consider themselves as Singaporeans, and they are willing to contribute theirshare to the interests as well as the development of their nation. Singapore has beenset up for a short period as a nation of immigrants, which given rise to culturaldiversity, religious diversity and people’s strong sense of ethnic identity. Therefore, itis necessary for the country to carve out the political identity. Through a series ofmeasures and a set of policies, the government of Singapore established the nationalidentity by educating the citizens with varied educational activities that aimed atforming common values and strengthening national consciousness. Singapore finallyachieved highly political identification, strengthened national cohesiveness, andformed harmonious ethnic relations in a short term. Learning from Singapore’ssuccessful experience of political identity construction will be of great significance toconstruct the socialist core value system, form highly cultural and political identityregarding our country.This essay has some main sections: First section is prodromes, author describes the purpose of question selection, thetheoretical significance as well as the practical significance of the research. Also, theauthor analyses and summarizes the research status of domestic as well as of overseas.Chapter one,define the meaning of identity and political identity.Chapter two is about the issues of construction of political identification inSingapore. Firstly, this chapter defines the meaning of political identification andrelated concepts. It mainly analyses the ethnic groups of Singapore, culture as well ascharacteristics of the country; it describes the impacts of the traditional ChineseConfucianism and western culture on Singapore; it analyses the problems in theprocess of constructing a political identification in Singapore; it discusses the processof how the government of Singapore prefers applying the concept of Confucianism toconstruct the political identification.Chapter three is about the ways and methods of how to construct the politicalidentification in Singapore. It discusses that government raises the core values system,which are eight virtues and common values, due to the construction of politicalidentification. There are some concrete methods of implementing this value system,such as making use of education in both of family and school, promotingConfucianism socialization and so forth. It finally demonstrates the effectiveness ofconstructing political identification in Singapore.Chapter four is about the referring significance of building in politicalidentification in Singapore. Author initially elaborates the cultural issues in thedevelopment of Chinese modernization, Chinese culture experiencing the shock ofwestern culture, the unrest of the Cultural Revolution, the diversification of valuessystem after reform and opening-up of China. There are a number of issues appearingwhen constructing the political identification in China, such as the poor foundation ofpolitical identification caused by insufficiency in economic security, the subversion ofthe traditional social and cultural values. Therefore, by according to China drawinglessons from Singapore’s experience, combined with the reality of China,strengthened contemporary political identification of China, author carries out thefollowing measures.
