Known for its rich value of historical materials, family trees, along with local chronicles and official history, are regarded as the three pillars of Chinese historical science. Taking Fujian Province in Qing Dynasty as the research object, this paper serves to delineate the imprint of the imperial examination in the family trees of Fujian Province in Qing Dynasty on the basis of collecting and processing of the family trees of the province in that era. Moreover, by looking into the basic unit of traditional Chinese society——family, and studying the relationship between imperial examination and family, this thesis intends to produce a profound understanding of the interaction between imperial examination and family as well as between family and society, thus to achieve an overall comprehension of the social history of Fujian Province in Qing Dynasty by seeing large things through small particles.
