The non-governmental organization (NGO) is a kind of organization innovationbesides the government and enterprise, full of super wisdom. And the threeindividuals constitute a united society, in which they three supplement, influence,restrict and supervise to each other. The NGO is always set up by volunteers of civilpower. It mainly undertakes the function of public service, and plays an important rolein the fields of charity, environmental protection, sanitation, health, education, cultureand so on.As one branch of NGO, the religious NGO has a wide international influence.Especially in the areas of widespread religious believes, the religious NGOs carry outactivities based on their typical cohesion and appeal, win local people‘s trust, establisha good reputation in the governments, and exert their own influence finally.Meanwhile, after the regional religious NGOs break through the district restriction,they take part in the global affairs and exert their own countries‘impact indirectly,which has expanded the international space in different fields at various levels.In this essay, the author takes Tzu-Chi------the most famous religious organizationin Chinese regions------as an example to generalize the religious NGOs effects onexpanding Taiwan‘s international space. Owing to the political factors, Taiwan is onthe edge of global affairs, and its own development has been restricted from bothinside and outside. Under this condition, some NGOs grow up rapidly and yieldunusually brilliant results, which have brought some breathing space for the island.The essay concludes four parts. The first chapter introduces the general situation of the religious NGOs in Taiwan, and it also summarizes the basic property of NGOsand religious ones briefly. The second chapter takes Tzu-Chi as a special case andelaborates the circumstances of Tzu-Chi‘s foundation, development, faith, aims, andits structure. Through the description, we can find the universal characteristics of thereligious NGOs in Taiwan, and also the original and successful parts of Tzu-Chi. Thethird chapter emphasizes on the real accomplishments in different fields and differentcountries of Tzu-Chi. Through the analysis of detailed measures in the rescue of911,relieving people in mainland, succor in the Indian Ocean tsunami, and Tzu-Chi‘sinteractions with other organizations, the paper definitely reveals Tzu-Chi‘soutstanding contributions on global charity. In the conclusion, there is an analysis ofthe religious NGOs‘effects in society. With the case of Tzu-Chi, the author coulddeduce the positive role of the religious NGOs in expanding Taiwan‘s internationalspace.
