Research On Famine In Song Dynasty

Since ancient times, China is the traditional small-scale peasanteconomy society；Agriculture has always been the top priority concern by thegovernment, and it is the first concern of all previous dynasties to rule the country.However, due to the limitations of the scientific and technological level, excessivepopulation growth and the population base number, as well as the frequent naturaldisasters, the majority of people have been at the edge of famine. In order tosafeguard the livelihood of the people, to respond to natural disasters, and to protectthe people from the scourge of famine, the Song Dynasty government must payattention to the issue of food security.This paper is to analyze it in the following five aspects: Firstly, according to thehistorical data, elaborate the basic situation of the song dynasty famine. Secondly,analyze the causes of famine in song dynasty respectively from two aspects of naturaland social reasons. Then, analyze the influence of the famine in Song Dynasty,mainly about the social influence caused by occurrence of famine, such as the impactof the famine on the social order and city. The fourth, Song government relief andprepare to the famine and so on. Finally, analyze the famine relief from civil society,anti-hunger preparing hunger ideas from the non-governmental, the famine relief fromthe rich and the famine victims’ self rescue.
