Relative to spherical particles, anisotropic microspheres have low symmetry, which can be widely used in photonic crystals, sensors, as well as in the field of biological materials. Among the many preparation methods, seeded polymerization method has been more used because of its convenience. Scientists have been working on the preparation of a variety of anisotropic microspheres, with different shape, size and function, in order to expand the anisotropic microspheres’ application. In this paper, we used the microspheres fabricated by dispersion polymerization as the seed particles. And then combined with seeded polymerization, we can achieve a wide variety of anisotropic microspheres. The following is our major work:1. In the dispersion polymerization, we used styrene as monomer, PVP as the stabilizer, AIBN as the initiator, and3μm microspheres were fabricated in the ethanol. Then we experimentally investigated the effects of monomer, the molecular weight of stablizer and other factors on the size and monodispersity of microspheres.2. In the basis of the dispersion polymerization, we achieved bigger microspheres with protrusions on surface. Through the experiment, we found the reason of the protrusions and also by changing the reaction process variables to change the size and number of the protrusions. So a variety of anisotropic particles were achieved.3. With the anisotropic microspheres as templates, we coated a layer of silicon dioxide on the microspheres, and finally fabricated silica hollow microspheres through calcination methods. Then we explores the rapid decontamination of hollow microspheres through rapid absorption of iodine of hollow microspheres.4. The same method is used for seed polymerization by changing the amount of initiator is added and the addition method, the initial preparation of the microspheres of the depressed type.5. Using the side edge swelling polymerization method, not only the successful preparation of large monodisperse microspheres, and the time is shortened to improve the efficiency of the reaction.
