With the rapid development of economy, the number of motor vehicles in China has increased rapidly. The situation of road traffic safety in China is severe, not only threatens the safety of people’s lives and property, but also has become the bottleneck of social economic development. A large number of survey studies have shown, more than70%of road traffic accidents are directly related with drivers. Drivers’ perception of the traffic environment changes, the reaction rate and the measures taken are the key factors leading to traffic accidents, traffic incidents are usually caused by the drivers’ irrational selective attention and processing of environmental information at the wrong time during the driving process. Studying the driver’s risk perception characteristics, the level of risk perception and risk handling behavior can help to understand better the deep-root cause of traffic accidents caused by drivers, and also can help to analyze the drivers’ risk perception characteristics, thus educating and training drivers accordingly, which is of great practical significance to improve driver safety awareness. As one of the basses of the research project "The study of formation mechanism and influencing factors of the drivers’selective attention based on risk perception ", which is funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, this paper reviewing the related literatures home and abroad, summarized road traffic information, and also classified from different stand point, analyzed the risk of traffic information accordingly; proposed the concept of the ideal safe distance and limit safe distance, consider the concept of time into the drivers" risk management process, established the ideal safe distance and limit safety distance model based on the vehicle characteristics and driver reaction characteristics; Traffic simulation scenarios are built based on two sections of representative sample of the actual traffic scene, determined the amount of traffic information, information density in each simulation scenario, designed to the test risk traffic information, and also added appropriate noise information in order to ensure the validity of the tests. Selected appropriate subjects to carry out desktop test, and also analyzed and evaluated the level of drivers’ risk perception based on there corded data. Then driving simulation test was carried out under controlled speed conditions, according to the time and action when subjects taking measures, subjects’risk information processing behavior was evaluated based on theoretical safe distance. The test results of desktop test and driving simulation test show that the driver’s level of risk perception not only related to risk information characteristics, but also has a certain relationship with the type of testing scene and the driver’s driving experience; The test results also showed that the driver’s level of risk perception consistent with the driver’s risk management performance.
