With the process of urbanization in China and the continuous improvement of people’s livingstandard, the population in urban areas is larger and larger as well as the number of private cars, which increases great pressure to urban transport systems. How to monitor and control publicvehicles scientifically is an important aspect to improve the quality of the services in publictransportation systems and reduce operating costs and protect the safety of vehicles. The goal of the first stage of China’s Compass II project GPS system has been completed.Although it’s not as good as American GPS system in the function of setting location, it hasalready met the requirement to broadcast names of bus-stops automatically and accurately. Therefore, putting China’s Compass II project GPS system into bus systems can reduce thedependency on single GPS, which has strategic significance. At present, our country has urgent needs to develop the intelligent system.Based on theembedded technology and GPS satellite navigation technology, this paper presents a proposal ofan automatic stop-reporting bus terminal based on GPS/BD2dual-mode navigation. The MCU ofthis terminal is NXP’s LPC3250together with GPS/BD2unit, GPRS, scheduling screen units andSD card. By using this terminal, drivers don’t need to broadcast names of bus-stops by themselves, which makes them drives more carefully and can reduce security risks. This terminal can alsomeet the requirement of intelligent bus systems and is proper to use in the bus systems of big andmedium-sized city.In this project, I have completed the following work:1.The appropriate MCU and other major modules according to the requirements of theproject are selected.2. Hardware circuit of this terminal have been designed, including the power supply circuit, reset circuit,Hardware circuit, clock circuit, JTAG circuit, flash circuit,SDRAM circuit, navigationmodule circuit, voice broadcast circuit, GPRS communication circuit, scheduling screen circuit,SD card storage circuit and so on.3. Based on the hardware circuits, operating system Linux has been selected. The overallsoftware framework and the main application process are designed. A detailed description of theGPS navigation message parsing is presented.4. Debugging the hardware part and the software part with other numbers of this project.5. At last, this terminal are installed in the bus of Guangzhou for test. The test results show thateach module works well.
