Axial Flux-Switching Hybrid Excitation Machine (AFSHEM) is a novel flux adjustablemachine having magnets in the stator, which composes the advantages of hybrid excitationmachine and axial flux-switching machine. It has the broad prospects of application in the caseswith variable rotor speed or load. In this thesis, the keys of the theoretical issues about AFSHEMmachine are deeply and systematically studied, including the topology, operation principle, electromagnetic characteristics, design procedure and optimization, prototype manufacture andtest, etc.The main contents and fruits of this thesis are listed as follows:1. Analysis of toplology and operation principle. Some possible topological structures areproposed and compared, and the best topological structure is determined. The structurecharacteristics and operation principle are analyzed.2. Finite element analysis and calculation of electromagnetic characteristics. Based on thefinite element analysis software ANSYS, the3-D model of AFSHEM is built, and theelectromagnetic characteristics are analyzed including the magnetic field distribution, PM fluxlinkage, no-load induced electromotive force, the winding inductances, field control ability, etc.3. Design and optimization. In order to improve the sine degree of the induced electromotiveforce and reduce the leakage coefficient, the electric excitation part, non-magnetizer part, theshape of slot and permanent magnet are optimized. The optimized structure of the machine isobtained and the corresponding parameters are also given.4. Manufacture and test of the prototype. The test platform of the prototype is built and someexperiments are developed, which demonstrate the validity of the theoretical analysis.
