In traditional Chinese medicine system, Caowu is the dried toots of A.kusnezoffii andbelongs to the ranunculaceae family. It ‘s first appearance ever written in the history wasin the Shen Nong’s Herbal. In China Caowu is widely distributed in many northernprovinces such as Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Shanxi, Jilin, Liaoning. It is generallyconsidered as poisonous and hot-natrued in the theoretical system of TCM and usuallybeen used for curing rheumatism, inflammation and relieving pain. Recently it is also bereported about it’s anti-virus and anti-cancer properties.In the crude plants of Caowu, the vital substances with activities are the diterpenoidalkaloids, according to the latest version of Ch.Pharmacopoeia, the effective componentsof Caowu that should be controlled are aconitine, hypaconitine and mesaconitine. Andthose in prepared Caowu are benzoylaconitine, benzoylhypaconitine andbenzoylmasaconitine. Thus the traditional way that uses monomer CRS controlling thecrude plants safety is obviously expensive and extremely complicated. Furthermore,because of the complexity of it’s.chemical constituents and the diversity of thediterpenoid alkaloids, only focusing on three of them is far away from the scientific andcomprehensive drugs quality control.The preparation process of the CRS is universally known complicated and requires alarge amount of time and labor. It has always been the obstacle of the TCM qualitycontrol development. In recent years, the reference extractives gradually outstand offbecause of their many advantages such as low price, strong specificity and simpleprocedures. On the conditions above we successfully managed to prepare diesterreference extractives from Caowu, and got the monoester reference extractives byhydrolysising the diester ones. And got the monomer of Beiwutine and14-benzoyl-10-OH-mesaconine in the meantime. At last, we determined the assay ofboth reference extractives and use them as CRS for crude drugs quality controlling,moreover providing important basis to refine the quality standards of the crude drugs.
