In recent years, the relationship between source memory and item memory hasbecome a hot topic in the field of memory research. Generally, there are two views:one view is that the cognitive process&physiological mechanism between the twoare different; another view is that there is no the essential difference between them.In this paper, three experiments were conducted to investigate that the stimulusmaterials, mission paradigm impact on item memory and source memory. It wasdesigned to further understand the relationship between the two kinds of memory, and it also could enrich the cognitive psychological theory of episodic memory. In the first experiment, there are two kinds of task, the inclusive task and theeliminating task. The dependent variable was the performance of memory, whichused percentage of correct memory as the criteria. The result showed that:sourcememory uses the cognitive resources. In the second experiment, three levels of task were also arranged, and twotypes of content, one is Chinese word, the other is picture. The dependent variablewas the performance of memory. The result showed that:(1) in any case, theperformance of item memory is better than source memory;(2) the performanceof source memory were worse and worse with the increased of cognitiveload;(3)there is no “Figure optimal effect”.In the third experiment, there were two independent variables: itemmemory(2level),source memory (2level). The result showed that:(1)under low loadcondition, source memory and item memory is influence each other;(2) under highload condition, item memory is processed priority.
