Variation is one of the oldest instrumental music, wich was born in16thCentury. So many composers were attracted by Variation in history, such as Bach、Beethoven and so on.Mendelssohn was one of the greatest composers of romantic genre of Germanyin19th Century. He displays his great brilliant talent in the area of piano composition.His peace works “song without words” has been called art song in piano work.Compared with other composers of his time, Mendelssohn spent more attention onthe classical forms, because he tried to become the new Bach or Beethoven. TheVariation Serious in D minor,op54is his great piano work of his late period works.Different from his early period works, tragedy is an important factor in this work. Wecan find the opinion of the Variation in The Variation Serious in D minor,op54ofMendelssohn.This paper is divided into four chapters,The first chapter briefly introducesMendelssohns life and creation and the development of variations;The secondchapter will focus on analysis of composing technique of the “various of serious”,Forexample, the adornment of the melody, musics personality changes and internalunity of theme, variation and so on;The third chapter is some tips of performanceskills in the aspects of the work,From the authors own playing experience.In order tofacilitate to focus on the performance skills, this chapter will be divided into fourparts,The first point is the assurance of pair of themes and melodiesparagraphs,Discuss the problem of how to grasp the sound;The second is the analysisof the difficulty in playing,Discuss the problem of how to improve the skills; Thethird is to talk about playing polyphony;The fourth for the summary.In the fourthchapter briefly analysis of the variation features of the two composers Beethoven,Schumann, in order to make a comparison with "d minor solemn variations.in the Fourth of the last chapter,the author will do a simple summary for the solemnvariations.
