"Liu Jin Sha Dance" - Remember Ink Short Dunhuang Academic Career

Xie Zhiliu(谢稚柳)is a famous painter and painting theorists in modern China, and also good at painting critic. In1942, Xie Zhiliu was invited by Zhang Daqian (张大千)to go to Dunhuang in order to investigate the murals there. His achievement after the investigation was turned into two books, which are Records about Dunhang art and Records about Dunhuang grottoes. His short academic career in studies of Dunhuang caves give us lots of academic wealth and also the doubts. This paper mainly discusses the profile about his academic achievements in Dunhuang, especially about the relations between Indian gandhara art and Dunhuang frescoes style.It also analyses the doubts he leaves in the history of Dunhuang academic history. Points out that Zhang Daqian did damage Dunhuang mural. The support which given by Xie is false. In addition, put blame on Xie Zhiliu about copying Zhang Daqian’s book is also not based on facts. This paper tries to Xie Zhiliu to dunhuang academic career make a overall scan, This paper expected to give more comprehensive statements about his Dunhuang academic career.
