As one of the traditional Chinese Guzheng schools, Shandong Zheng has its own system ofsuccession, rich repertoire, unique expressive techniques and its own music style. Nowadays,there are quite a lot theoretical researches about the traditional techniques and repertoires ofShandong Zheng, however, few research is about the individual case studies of its successors.Written records cannot play a better inheritance role than the successors of Shandong Zheng. Onlythe successors who learn and practice their skills from their last generation can well carry the soulof Shandong Zheng art to the next generation.The old generation of Shandong Zheng successors gradually disappear with time, thus it’sextremely urgent to carry the case study of Mr. Han Tinggui, who is one of the greatest artists of theold generation of Shandong Zheng.This thesis starts with the music achievements of Shandong Zheng and Mr. Han Tinggui, andthen focuses on some of his creative repertoires as case studies to discover the expressivetechniques and repertoires Mr. Han Tinggui is skilled in, to trace his creation source and means, andto comb clear the traditional skill characteristics and development trends of Shandong Zhengreflected from Mr. Han Tinggui’s repertoires. This case study has practical meaning for theinheritance and development of Shandong Zheng.
