Impressionism breaks the concept of traditional western painting and has extraordinaryinfluence on color and techniques. Derived from <The story of art> written by Gombrich, theterm “sketchy” is a technique of painting which uses accurate strokes and instant colors todescribe the object. It can fully display the artist’s observation when they depict the naturalobjects. This paper gives a definition and statement about “sketchy”. By studying thepaintings of impressionism masters, we can summarize the artistic characteristics about the“sketchy” technique, aesthetic connotation and special practical meaning---“sketchy”technique can guide modern oil painting. The “sketchy” technique seems quick and rough, butactually exquisite. To realize the perfect effect, it takes long-term practice. Through the studyon “sketchy”, we can feel the visual impact which formed by the seemingly externalbrushstrokes. It pays close attention to the painting language by itself in essence. It alsopushes the painters to consider consciously when they practice and refine the essence ofimpressionism from creative painting. |
