In terms of genre, there are argumentation, novel and prose, etc. The argumentation the thesis deals with conveys the author’s opinions and suggestions by providing evidences to support his statements, with clear purpose. The most common types of argumentations are dissertation and academic articles. Compared with other genres, argumentation pays more attention to the theme and statements. In order to ensure the clarity of the theme, words and sentences in the thesis must be organically and logically organized. The connective endings in Korean written language play an important role in promoting the coherence of the argumentation. Meanwhile, training on Korean thesis writing is a crucial ingredient of Korean language teaching. The thesis analyzes Chinese students’ misusages of Korean connective endings in dissertations and explores the reasons, providing guidance for improving the ability of Chinese students in using Korean connective endings. The first chapter, introduction, provides discussions on the previous studies on the connective endings in Korean language, and presents the theoretical foundation of the present research. The second chapter carries out a systematic study on the concept and the classification of the connective endings of written language. It focuses on the connective endings in Korean teaching materials, narrowing down the research object. The third chapter conducts a detailed examination on the semantics and grammar of the connective endings in Korean language teaching materials. The fourth chapter investigates the cognition level and application of the connective endings among Chinese students of Korean language from the previously conducted questionnaire survey and the dissertation analysis. Furthermore, the misusages of connective endings occurred in the students’ thesis writings are classified. The analysis of the underlying causes of the misusages can act as a basis on which to design effective teaching methods. The thesis aims to help Chinese Korean language learners to improve the application of connective endings in promoting the coherence, and consequently the overall quality of their thesis. Thus, it is the hope of the author that the findings from this research might be able to help improve the teaching of connective endings in Korean written language, and therefore be of reference value.
