"Six Old Meaning" Study

"Liushu"is the centre of Chinese philology, as soon as it came into being, it has drawn much attention of scholars from Song to Ming, especially the Liushu study of Qing Dynasty. LiuShuJiuYi is the main reflection of Liao Ping’study about Chinese philology, enriched the study of himself and promoted the deve lopment of Liushu study of Qing Dynasty in a way. But since the appearance of LiuShuJiuYi, a great deal of scholars considered the point of it right, while some scholars thought it fantastic, weird and wrong. no one gave LiuShuJiuYi a overall analysis and evaluation. There is no doubt that every book in our history has its own value.So, what we can do is analyzing the Liushu of Liao Ping to have a good understanding of Liushu’s source of Liao Ping,so that we can give it a considerable and overall assessment. Only in this way can we have a more clear idea of the development of Liushu and contribute to the establishment of history of Chinese philology. The article can be divided into five parts:Part Ⅰ. The part first tells readers the value of the research, the current situation of LiuShuJiuYi study and the methods we will use. Secondly,the rest of this part deals with the basic information of Liao Ping and LiuShuJiuYi. The paper includes the basic information of Liao Ping, the purpose of the writing of LiuShuJiuYi, the background of its completion, the edition,crucial topic of LiuShuJiuYi, so that we can put the study of LiuShuJiuYi under control and set a firm foundation for the discussion of Liao Ping’s LiushuPart Ⅱ. The Liushu of Liao Ping. this part is mainly about the specific theory of Liao Ping’Liushu. It includes Xiangxing,Xiangshi,Xiangyi,Xiangsheng,Zhuanzhu and Jiajie. In the paper, we make a few comparisons between Xiangxing and Xiangshi, Zhuanzhu and Jiajie. After that, the Liushu can be understood more deeply.Part Ⅲ. The point of this part is the evaluation of Liushu. The article explains this question from two aspects, achievements and shortcomings. we can take it for granted that Liao Ping’s achievements on" Liushu" will surely influence the development of "Liushu", the shortcomings of Liao Ping’s Liushu will certainly affect the recognize of readers and scholars. In the end, we can give LiuShuJiuYi a more considerable and reasonable assessment.Part Ⅳ. Conclusion and appendix. From LiuShuJiuYi to the whole theory of Chinese philology, we can see a clear road of Liushu’s development. we are now in a new period and stage, we must apply new methods to the study of "Liushu", use fresh materials to put our study into a wider space. The appendix is based on the edition of "Siyiguan", with the comparison of the edition of "Liuyiguan", so that the readers can know LiuShuJiuYi better.
