In northwest China, there is a kind of folk songs, which is not only widely known, but also authorized as the precious intangible cultural heritage in the northwest China by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and called "nation al soul" of the northwest of China by experts and scholars. It has a long history and is ve ry popular among the northwest people. It is the folk song "flowers". In China’s northwe st, there is a multi-ethnic populated place, where there is plenty of the hui nationality am orous feelings and "flowers" folk song has taken root here.It is the Ningxia Hui Autono mous Region, the most concentrated population of the hui nationality reside in China.In the south of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,"flowers" song is widely sung and has b een a spiritual enjoyment in their spare time. Many times in the history, the national mig ration and fusion happened here and a lot of cultural exchange and economic exchanges, political communication, and religious exchanges also happened here, making it the im portant channel of the communication between the eastern and western cultures since th e ancient time. Here live the most of the hui nationality in China who believe in Islamic, and religious culture has been rooted deeply in their hearts. In Ningxia south mountaino us area, they have their own distinct characteristics of music-"mountain flowers" folk s ongs, showing a difference with the folk song "flowers" in other northwest areas. Due to special geographical environment in the region, history, culture and religion, the "moun tain flowers" folk song not only has the characteristics folk song "flowers" in northwest but also is influenced by the local folk songs, ditty, Islamic holy chanting tones, contrib uting to the unique and distinct characteristics of the "mountain flowers" folk song.This paper firstly introduces the basic situation of the Ningxia south mountainous area. Based on the cultural background, it gives a general description of t he history and development of the folk song "mountain flowers", in which the style of folk song "mountain flowers" and the singing style is emphasized."Mountain flowers" singers are briefly discussed in the end, and several valuable suggestions and comment s are put forward to protect and promot folk song "mountain flowers".The paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter1introduces the basic situation of the Ningxia south mountainous area and gives a general description of the history and development of the folk song "mountain flowers".
