Loanwords has been the focus of lexicology study, however，among the reaearchon loanwords, there is little research that focus on the loanwords of a dynasty or aspecial period in history.The characteristics of this research is synchronous study,which focus on the special period of "May4th", and select corpus from The EasternMiscellany.It is guided by the theory of lexicology and language contact theory, andcombined the methods of literature review and statistical measurement, to study theinflux of loanwords in Chinese during this period.This essay consists of six parts: The first part is the introduction of this article.Introduce the topic background and the significance of this research.Summary thestudy of loanwords in Chinese and the "May4th" period of loanwords.Analyse thelack of loanword study on the "May4th" period,then determine the source ofcorpus,the theoretical basis and research methods.The second part is to analyzeexisting research results and research direction, and defined the research scopeaccording to the characteristic of this research.The third part is the introduction of"May4th" period. The social situation was complicated and turbulent. Chineseabsorbed a large number of loanwords in this period because of the introduction offoreign ideology and culture.The fourth part is the corpus analysis.The corpus consistsof835loanwords, which are from magazine named The Eastern Miscellany in "May4th" period.After analysis from all sides,we found that the loan words of this periodare mainly from English and transliteration is the major absorbtion way.The semanticrange is very wide, involving political, military, culture, science and technology andother aspects of social life. The fifth part is summary of characteristics of the "May4th" period loanwords. On the basis of the first and the second part and from theperspective of synchronic to analysis,summary the characters that transliteration ispopular and most words are noun and so on. The sixth part is the the influence on themodern Chinese by "May4th" period loanwords.They has enriched Chinesevocabulary, filled the vocabulary vacancy, constituted many new words by foreignmorpheme,and developed the written form of Chinese.The last is the conclusion ofthis research.This part summarizes the main research point of view and introduce theinnovation and value of this research.
