The kingdom of Lo/Mustang located in Nepal is a virgin territory that has not beenover infected by modern civilization. Only a few people actually entered into itshinterland on their field trip in1990s after the ban was lifted (and it cost them a lot topay for their entry permission to the Nepalese government at that time). Known as the“Lost Kingdom”, Lo kept its appearance unchanged since the medieval times. As theonly way in the back Tibet area which must be passed to trade with Nepal and India, and the border port connecting Ali, the capital city Lo-Manthang became thesecond-largest center of Tibetan Buddhism in its heyday after the holy city of Lhasa.Because of the isolation caused by political problems in later days plus itsconservative economic policies, the culture and local customs condensed into anoriginal ecology sample of Lo. This isolation further ensured the preservation ofculture, like an almost solidified sample of history comes along in extremely lowspeed.Getting in touch with Lo indeed provides the chance to experience an epitome ofhigh-land human culture. This is an in-depth culture study of Lo/Mustang, includinggeneral information from the remains of the ancient primitive culture to currentenvironment as well as habits and customs of indigenous people. By using the uniquehuman culture as background of this essay, it is possible to pursue the core of this lostkingdom step by step, and eventually obtains the culture meaning and presentcharacteristics of Lo-Manthang.
