Stretches Lantern

This article uses anthropology and field research method, records the process ofceremony together with the relationship between ceremony and the life in countryside,trying to explore the influence and significant meaning that ceremonies affect onnormal life in Gelao village community. The ceremony of Lantern Jumping (TiaoDeng) is popular in Wuchuan District for it is celebrated by people to pray forchildren and make wishes. In this ceremony, Gelao people would satisfy themselvesthrough the process of lantern making, lantern jumping and lantern disappearing, andgain confidence to face challenges and fulfill their dreams. The first part of the articleis a brief introduction to this ceremony and its history. By describing the process, itsfunction and analyzing each character in this ceremony, the author wants todemonstrate the research on the inherit of Lantern Jumping, the current situation ofpeople’s belief, and the significant role Lantern Jumping plays as a convention as wellas the challenges alongside. The author is trying to discuss the Lantern Jumping’sinheritance, development and significance in modern life, in order to find out theinheritance situation and people’s faith psychology in this area.
