Symbol provides the media of knowing things for human beings,and human beings can express and transmit information by usingsymbols. Symbol is not only the carrier for storing andrecording information, but also one of the ways for people toexpress their thoughts and feelings. With the function ofsymbol, people achieve the information transmission and humaninteraction. Semiotics is a comprehensive interdisciplinaryscience, which is practiced and researched widely in all areasof our daily life as its rich knowledge, sophisticatedprinciple and methodology. Photography is the main ways ofculture communication and images recording, meanwhile, it isalso an important way for human beings to express consciousnessand emotions. Photographers can explore the potential of imagesymbol from the perspective of semiotics. Photographiccreators should learn to understand the symbol system andtransmission mode of images. By using the contemporaryphotography, photographers add their own concept and thecognition to image symbols and create a new symbol of uniqueculture and philosophy. Researching photographic works from the angle of semioticsis a way to correspond the shooting and watching to the "code"and "decoding" concepts in Semiotics. When the shooting starts,the coding process starts. The whole process of filming andpostproduction is corresponding to the "code" process. Theprocess for viewers to understand the works is correspondingto the "decoding" process. It is helpful to analyze the symbolicfunction of the image and works during the process of shootingand transmitting, and also conducive to analyze the socialsignificance and social value of culture transmission from theperspective of semiotic.From the semiotic point of view, transferring the image elementin the real world into image symbol that bears some culture,emotion and idea, is the new understanding and interpretationof photographic art creation from photographic workstransmission, photographers creation and photographicinterpretation. Interpreting how the photographic creationform symbol is from the angle of rhetoric on photographic imagesymbol to the photographic creation and expression, andanalysis of the symbol of image rhetoric rationally. Researchthe art of photography from the perspective of semiotics, isthe new ideas of exploring and improving the system of photographic language.The main content of this thesis is divided into four parts asfollows:(1) See photography from the perspective of semiotics. Talkabout the development of semiotics and the produce of artsymbols. Analyze the shooting intention from the perspectiveof art symbol, and the artistic photographic works from theartistic symbol of non-practical significance. Study thephotography image symbolization and transmission with thesemiotic theory, and summarize the transmitting essence withthe actual--symbol transmission.(2) Analyze the three kinds of meaning in the process ofphotographic transmission from the perspective of semiotics.Analyze the three kinds of meaning in the process of symboltransmission: intentional meaning, content meaning,explanation meaning, and analyze the alternative relationshipsof the three meaning in the transmitting process. Explain thereason why different people have different explanations on thesame photo from the aspects of the transmission circumstance,hermeneutic circle and spiral.(3) Analyze the form of photographic symbols. Analyze thephotographic works from two angles "decoding" and "code". Analyze the composition of photographic symbols from the angleof rhetoric metaphor of image by four kinds of image rhetoricclassifications."Simile" refers to the subjects with cleverdesign of the photographic works, and "metaphor" refers tograsping of shooting, and" metonymy " refers to the design atthe mercy of picture and mosaic photography, while "counter-metaphor" refers to digital postproductionphotographic works.(4) Pay attention to the photographic significance with thesemiotics thinking (art creation and art appreciation stage).From the combination of thinking before shooting, choice whenshooting and creative image symbol to analyze the value andsignificance of semiotics thinking made on photographers.
