In the book that philosophy and the mirror of nature, Richard Rorty puts forward acomprehensive and critical philosophy position. Many great European and Americanphilosophers’ ideas are reviewed with rich materials. And Rorty sharply criticizes theTraditional Rationalism, Scientism and the Only Philosophy Doctrine. Then he prospects a“post-philosophical culture” which has no dominant position in the philosophy. Rortydiscusses respectively with three parts. The first part is that discusses the philosophy of mind. And in other wards, Rorty discusses the mirror of nature. He views the “mind” and“knowledge” from a historical perspective, and analyses and criticizes the traditionalconcepts. The second part focuses on the Epistemology, and tries to find a new topic tosucceed the epistemology. This part includes the nature of “Truth”, the linguistic meaning of“Truth” and the subjectivity of “Truth”. Through the three respects, Rorty forms his ownpragmatism truth. The third part discusses more specifically the concepts of “philosophy”.And he changes the traditional systemic philosophy into enlightenment philosophy. This partfocuses on the influence and role of contemporary philosophy that Rorty’s new pragmatictheory of truth generates. In this essay, Rorty’s new pragmatic theory of truth is explored clearly. First, it putsforward various censures to the traditional theory of truth. Then make the scholars realizethat they are difficult to move forward. But Rorty’s truth inherits and further develops thetruth of classical pragmatism. And he puts forward his own theory of truth to find out theway of the truth. Rorty emphasizes the truth under the philosophy of significance. Finallydigests the various problems encountered by the traditional Truth. From the macro, thecontent of the paper intends divided into four parts. The first part is the background of Rorty’s new pragmatic theory of truth. This part isdivided into two layers. The first layer is the presence of the mirror of nature. In other wards, the traditional view of truth exist falsehoods, so make the truth in trouble. This layer isfurther expanded, respectively, from the correspondence theory of truth, the coherencetheory of truth and the ontological truth. The second layer is that the classical pragmatismlays a good foundation for Rorty’s new pragmatic theory of truth to produce a realistic basis. This layer firstly describes the truth of classical pragmatism, then discusses that Rortythrough the inheritance and development of the truth of classical pragmatism, put forwardthe view of truth and form his own theory of truth. The second part is the analysis of Rorty’s new pragmatic theory of truth. The fistincludes the definition of the “truth”, what is “true”, and the “true” is just a eulogy and no longer has other meaning. The second is the connotation of “truth”, including three aspects. On the one hand is that proposes the view of “lowercase truth” and discusses its sense inphilosophy, and then realizes the truth in the philosophical meaning of human society. Theother hand is the linguistic meaning of the “truth” and the truth is the metaphor. The lastlayer is the understanding of subjectivity what the Rorty’s new pragmatic theory of truthstresses on and emphasizes on “self”.The third part is the meaning of the “truth” and this part is discussed from three aspects. The first is the sociological significance of the “truth”, namely the transition fromobjectivity to the “synergy”. And this is the most important philosophical tendency about thedevelopment of truth. The second is the hermeneutic significance of the “truth”, namelyfrom epistemology to hermeneutics. The last is the philosophical significance of the “truth”,namely from the systems philosophy to enlightenment philosophy and this aspect plays aconstructive role in the philosophy.
