Contemporary Women Watercolor Aesthetic Tendency Of China

By organizing development of Chinese watercolor painting, appearancereasons, influence and contemporary features of female watercolor painters arediscussed in this paper. Then the unique aesthetic tendency of women’s watercolorpainting is further analyzed. This paper includes four parts. In the first part,development of watercolor painting is divided into three periods: from the beginningof the20thcentury to early days of new China, from early days of new China to theend of the1970s, and from the1980s to now. In the second part, the phenomenon ofwomen’s watercolor painting after the1980s is analyzed in detail according to thechange of political and economic environment. It is illustrated from two aspects asper the change of political and economic environment. Firstly, with the change ofsocial status, the female group starts to seek realization of self-value. Secondly, withthe change of social status; the female group has the same chance of receivingeducation with men. In the third part, the unique aesthetic psychology ofcontemporary female watercolor painters in China is explored. It is elaborated fromtwo perspectives. Firstly, influence of the unique psychological factors of women oncreation themes of watercolor painting is discussed. Secondly, the differencebetween male watercolor painter and female watercolor painter under the sametheme at contemporary era is analyzed. In the fourth part, problems existing incontemporary women’s watercolor painting are explored, and the developmentdirection for contemporary women’s watercolor painting is considered.Under such a social environment in which men play a leading role, we shouldpay attention to women’s situation and their reflection on traditional significance andconcept. The author tries to discuss contemporary speaking right and identity ofwomen. Meanwhile, this paper studies how female watercolor painters break throughthe discourse mechanism of patriarchy under contemporary social background andfinally establish a series of watercolor paintings that possess women’s creating styleand reveal women’s life experience. In the paper, a large amount of illustration is given to development of women’s watercolor painting. Besides, the existingcontributions of painters to the history of watercolor painting are analyzed; someChinese contemporary female watercolor painters are listed, and their representativeworks are analyzed in detail. Later, works of the same theme are compared withmen’s watercolor paintings. Argumentation is provided for analysis on femalegender, description about women’s psychological features, and emphasis onself-expression forms of women.This paper tries to present the viewpoint that group strength of femalewatercolor painters cannot be ignored by illustrating the creation features ofwomen’s watercolor painting in the circle of watercolor painting at present.Development of women’s watercolor painting is discussed and their existingcontributions to the history of watercolor painting are analyzed. Meanwhile, theproblems and defects of women’s watercolor painting are proposed under diversifieddevelopment of women’s watercolor painting in aesthetic appreciation. It clearlyshows the author’s concern and worry about the artistic phenomenon of watercolorpainting at this stage. Besides, this paper also points out the innovation anddevelopment direction of women’s watercolor painting.
