Norm Establish Chongqing High School Student Impulsive Personality Traits And Its Relationship With The Suicide

As a prominent personality, impulsivity affects the human mind and behavior controlling, and it also affects the occurrence of suicide. In the study,we use the Chinese version of Barratt Impulsivity Scale,the suicidal ideation scale,the suicidal behavior scale to survey high school students of Chongqing.The aim of the study is to establish high school impulsive personality traits norm, to know the impulsive personality characteristics of Chongqing high school students, and to reveal the relationship between impulsive personality traits and suicide.The first study is to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Barratt Impulsivity Scale. The result is that the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Barratt Impulsivity Scale is good. And it is suitable for measuring the group of high school students. In the first study we discuss the impulsive personality traits of Chongqing high school students. Then we fine that the impulsivity score of the secondary vocational and technical school is significantly higher than the other two schools, and the score of female is significantly higher than male, and there is no difference between city and countryside. The second study is based on the first study to establish the impulsive personality traits norm in gender and school type. The third study is based on the first two study to discuss the relationship between impulsive personality traits and suicide. And we find that the impulsive personality traits can forecast the strength of suicidal ideation and the suicide attempts from different degrees.Methods:The number of the total sample is12024, which is from11high schools of Chongqing. Using questionnaire survey. all the students are asked to fill out the three scales.The initial data is analyzed by SPSS and Amos.Conclusions:(1) The Cronbach’s alpha Coefficient of the subscales of the Chinese version of Barratt Impulsivity Scale is distributed between0.698-0.777,and the total scale’s alpha is0.827. The split-half reliability of subscales is distributed between0.821-0.847,and the split-half reliability of total scale is0.905. Criterion-related validity and construct validity are good. (2) The sex norm of impulsive personality traits about the high school students in Chongqing:male is40.04±14.01,and female is42.43±13.28. The kinds of high schools norm:key high school is41.29±13.02, ordinary school is41.04±13.68, secondary vocational and technical school is42.36±14.05.(3) The impulsive personality traits is the important factor to suicidal ideation. The higher impulsivity, the stronger suicidal ideation. Motor impulsiveness is the best prediction of the three subscales.(4) Impulsive personality traits are predictors of suicide attempts. The higher of impulsivity score, the greater the likelihood of suicide attempts appearing. Motor impulsiveness is the best prediction of suicide attempts In the impulsive personality traits However, attentional impulsiveness and non—planning impulsiveness can not forecast the occurrence of suicide attempts.
