The famous French composer Achille-Claude Debussy is one of the mostimportant representatives in the Impressionist period. The Impressionistperiod was the late19th and early20th century, it is an important bridgebetween the late romantic and modern music of the twentieth Century.《24-Preludes》were Debussy’s later works, they bring together avariety of creative techniques accumulated since Debussy entered the musiccreation, including parallel chords, high fold chord, non three degreesoverlay chord, collage style structure, diatonic, middle tone, five tonescale, double tonality.they were the epitome of Debussy’s Impressionism.The study found that the continuous tone were used in almost every worksin 《24-Preludes》, but also each are not identical. So this paper givesthe conclusion that continuous tone has become an important means ofDebussy creation techniques.The dissertation focus on the classification of continuous tone inDebussy’s《24-Preludes》, On the basis of the classification study,thisresearch analyzed the various creative techniques in 《24-Preludes》.Research shows that, he inherited the traditional continuant usage,including the main and the dominant sustained tone. Furthermore, he madean innovation and development by boldly using other adjustable pitch classused to separate and fuzzy adjustable continuous tone, non tonal sustainedtone, and sustained tone which has dual function.
