Among all the calligrapher in Ming and Qing dynasty, Zhang Ruitu is quite distinguish. The appearance of his work marked the beginning of the new script style in late Ming dynasty. In the progress of Chinese scripts calligraphy then, when "Two Wang" style from WeiJing dynasty was the mainstream of consciousness, Zhang Ruitu’s work was totally distinct not only in appearance, but also in content. Slashing brushstroke and peculiar structure was the main theme of Zhang’s work. The strong sense of strength and dynamic vigor of Zhang’s work was so refreshing that it brought a brandnew esthetic emotion to temproraries.This paper mainly analyzed the calligraphy techniques, structure, layout of cursive script by Zhang Ruitu. It pointed out that Zhang’s work was innovative compared to his contemprorary and concluded prominent characteristic of Zhang’s work as "odd","strange","peculiar". Finally, this paper affirmed the reformation and innovation of Zhang’s work in the art of Calligraphy and appreciated the influence of his unique handwriting style on descendants.
