Sound Paintings Of

This thesis tries to discuss the narrative of Luc Tuymans’s works. Due to Tuymans’s extreme sensitivity to pre-existing images, his paintings are all based on photos. The motif he chose means, rather than depicting the objects realistically, he intended to cast a suspicious eye on the events. This is the just kind of narrative tactic, in which representations are shelved, traces of plot are submitted calmly, the authenticity is uncovered from the pictures. What is the Luc Tuymans’s authenticity? And by what means does he narrate it? In this thesis I approach the questions from the following five aspects:the missing of the figures’ identity, the absence of the protagonist in an event, montaged paintings in series, the use of photographic procedures, and the relationship between the title and the painting.
