Comparison Of Chinese Versions Of Tess Of The D'Urbervilles Two From The Perspective Of The Translator's Subjectivity

This essay attempts to make a case study through comparative analyses of ZhangGuruo’s and Sun Fali’s Chinese versions of Tess of the D’Urbervilles in terms oftranslator’s subjectivity.Mr. Zhang Guruo was a literary (or, in one sense, archaic) master of Chinese andChinese vernacular because of the diligence that he developed as a small child. Heentered an old-style private school when he was young and was widely exposed to anumber of Chinese traditional books. This laid a solid foundation for his later artisticattainments in Chinese language and literature. Mr. Zhang Guruo achieved theviewpoint of Authentic text, Authentic translation through adopting the domesticationstrategy.Mr. Sun Fali graduated from Wuhan University majoring in English. After years oftranslating foreign masterpieces, he advocated the translation view of Flexibility andtranslated novels in a humorous and easy way. Sun’s version is fully in accordance withthe structure of the original sentences, and he mainly adopts the strategy offoreignization to give an exotic flavor to his work.
