This thesis reports on an investigation of verb-noun collocation errors made byChinese college students majoring in subjects other than English that is based on ST3,ST4, and the two sub-corpora of CLEC. The purppse of the thesis is to promote theteaching of vocabulary. Antconc3.35is adopted as the main research tool to extract theV+N collocation errors. The combined-conceptual representation system assumption isused to explore the explanation of the V+N errors from the conceptual transferperspective. Based on the above information, the following suggestions have been made:teachers and students need to become more familiar with English-language collocations;corpus should be applied extensively in foreign language learning; the L2-based conceptshould be used more extensively.
