The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom(WILPF) is the oldest and largest women’s peace organization in the world in20th century. WILPF was founded as an international organization to work globally, with its arms in individual countries and towns. This paper intends to explore the establishment and activities of WILPF in1915-1945. This master thesis intend to carry a comprehensive analysis on WILPF, so as to probe into the development of women’s international organizations. The paper reviews briefly the background of the establishment of WILPF, and discusses how did the women set up WILPF. The article also analyzes the member’s composition, struggle aim, tactics and route, and concludes the characteristics of WILPF. Apart from the introduction and conclusion, there are4chapters in this master thesis.The introduction outlines this project’s goal, significance, background, theoretical, framework and methodology. Chapter one focuses on the background, and why did the women set up WILPF. There are for parts in the chapter. The first part is about the development of feminism and pacifism in the end of19th century. The part two pays attention to the the women, who were the leaders of WILPF. WILPF was a secular organization. Its policies were never based explicitly on Christian principles; rather; most the leaders believed to be women’s distinctive moral priorities. So the third part focuses on the women’s pacifism. The last part analyzes the relationship with the other organizations.Chapter two focuses on the process of the establishment of WILPF1discuss the International Congress of Women at The Hague and The Zurich. The administrative responsibility for carrying on the work of the new international women’s peace movement lay with the International Committee of Women for Permanent Peace which had been set up at the Hague Congress. Then the Zurich Congress adopted a formal constitution incorporating the principles and aims of the international women’s peace movement which had grown out of the Hague Congress and been consolidated through the International Committee of Women for Permanent Peace. So the name was amended to Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.Chapter three expounded the activities of WILPF in1915to1946. It was divided into two phases to discuss:the International Congress which opened by WILPF in1915to1946. The main international activities worked by national sections.By depiction the appearance and development of WILPF, analyzing the background of the arising of WILPF, chapter five summarizes the historical significance, traits and limitations of WILPF.
