Political Thought Of Wang Yu Gan

Wang Ganyu (1906-1997), the famous political scholar in period of the Republic of China. He graduated from the Department of Political Science, Tsinghua University. He studied in the United States and got a political science master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard University. Later, he was influenced by western democracy thought and has been actively spreading democratic constitutional thought after returning home. During the war he taught at the Yunnan University, the National Southwest Associated University. He also participated in the founding Today’s Critics, Freedom Forum and published China’s political Improvement, Local Government of China, New Political Idea, New Theory of Democracy, Democracy, Dictatorship and War, so he has played an important role in the field of political science in China.Wang Ganyu, professor Qian Duansheng and Zhang Xiruo have been called the top three of Southwest Associated University political science. This article focuses on the main contents and characteristics of Wang Ganyu political thought, trying to further study his political thinking, and striving to further explore its political and ideological connotation.The text is divided into five sections to discuss:The first part introduces Wang Ganyu’s political and ideological formation process. Western education and democracy has laid a solid foundation for nurturing the development and maturity of the political thought of Wang Gan-yu. Under the background of foreign invasions and national peril, and occupying the southwest of Kunming where there was a very strong local force, it brought a certain relatively independent period of time and free public opinion environment, which gave Wang Ganyu a good chance to come out his books. And it set up his academic status of the field of political science.The second part discusses the Wang Ganyu’s Democracy and Constitution Thought. Wang Ganyu thought that "freedom"and"equality" were the essence of democracy, but facing the reality of the "war",making democracy and centralization to reconcile China have to be taken into account. So when they proposed the road of constitutional democracy, they had to consider the reality of China during that period.The third part discusses Wang Ganyu’s consideration about the national unity and local self-government. I think that the construction of democracy contributed to unity and unity is conducive to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Central and local governments need to divide authority according to the situation in order to achieve the central-local relations to reconcile with each other, thus enhancing the strength of the country and promoting the increase of national interests.The fourth part focuses on Wang Ganyu’s deeper study of bureaucratic politics and favorable criticism. And I think that China’s political development must proceed from the political institutionalization of political and moral construction which can not be neglected.The last part is the conclusion, the author makes a brief review of Wang Ganyu’s political and ideological based on the preceding analysis and discussion. I think that Wang Ganyu upheld the feelings of the relief of the local Intellectuals and influenced by Western democratic constitutional atmosphere, then he came out his books to spread the dissemination of Western political theory and further studied and explored the "founding of the Anti-Japanese War","constitutional democracy","national unification and local self-government "and other practical problems, to seek the most suitable improvement program to change China’s political system which has made important contributions to early political science research and development.
