The problem of Cyprus is one of the most intractable problems in the world. It dated back to The Second World War. It is different from other nationality problems, because it not only includes the struggle between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, but also consists competing interest between Greek and Turkey, even the struggle of the eastern Mediterranean among England, America and Soviet Union. With the Deterioration of relations between two Cypriots and continual changes of international situation, the Cyprus problem became a difficult triangle problem among Greek, Cyprus and Turkey. The United Union, as the most authoritative body, paid more attention to its situation before it got independence. However, it did not function well as a result of its limitations and obstacle of super-nation. A mass fight broke out between the two Cypriots in1963. Then, the situation deteriorated extremely. The UN intervene the Cyprus problem in1964.Since stationed in Cyprus, the United Nations peacekeeping operations in Cyprus lasted half a century. During this period, The United Nations not only sent peacekeeping force to Cyprus, but also sent mediator to Cyprus, trying to deal with Cyprus problem politically. Stared in1964, under the supporting of the United Nations Secretary-General, the two people in Cyprus held several rounds of negotiations. Secretary-General fully absorbed the views of all parties and put forward many ideas and programs to solve the dispute of the two communities in Cyprus. The problem was at ease at once. After the Turkish invasion to Cyprus in1974, the United Nations peacekeeping mission has been extended, such as promoting local economic development, the implementation of humanitarian aid and so on. However, due to the two communities can not reach an agreement on the major issues of the regime, territory, immigration, The Cyprus reunification process continues. In the half-century of the United Nations peacekeeping, the UNFICYP and mediators make great efforts. Their work is of great significance to the maintenance of peace and stability in Cyprus.Until now, the United Nations has not been able to completely resolve the Cyprus problem. The key lies in the complexity of the problem of Cyprus. United Nations mediation activities are constantly affected by the bilateral relations between Greek and Turkey. Especially after the accession of Cyprus to the European Union in2004, the conflict between the Turkey and Greek Cypriot deteriorated sharply, Turkey became a huge obstacle to solve the problem of Cyprus. The solution of the Cyprus problem still needs time, Greece-Cyprus-Turkish tripartite game continues. This article will adopt the national interest theory, game theory, interdependence theory analysis of United Nations peacekeeping action in Cyprus, which is not only beneficial to our understanding of the complexity of the Cyprus problem, but also beneficial to the important role of the United Nations in the Cyprus issue.
