The Western Ecological Socialism Theory Research

The western ecological socialism (WES) is a stream of radical leftist social trend of thought arisen in western countries in1970s. It is a product of contemporary western new social movement, which reflects the human’s consideration and hope for the ecological crisis and many new resulting problems. It tries to explain the contemporary ecological crisis by the ecological socialism theory, to reform the existing capitalist society, to look for a way overcoming the human existence crises, and leading to the future socialist ideal model.The theory of the western ecological socialism (TWES) is a reflection of the destruction and deterioration of ecological environment caused by the capitalist economic development. It is also a part of mass struggle in the western capitalist countries. The TWES is the product of the western capitalist value change. The TWES is based on the theory of Marxism, stems from the theory of western Marxism, and is built on the idea of ecology, systematics and the future. The TWES experienced three stages from germination, development and expansion to maturity and transformation. During the TWES’s emergence and development process, the ecological socialists analyze ecological problems happened in the contemporary capitalist world by the Marxist method, discuss the necessary correlation between the capitalist system and the ecological crisis, criticizes the contemporary capitalism from different points, and combine the socialism principle with environment principle, with distinctive features of the age and acute criticism.The TWES is the consideration of the performance, consequences, root and solution of the human the current ecological crisis. The TWES points out that the aim of the capitalist production leads to ecological crisis and the "ecological imperialism" is the main reason of global environment deterioration. It also shows the capitalism has caused the lack of social justice. The TWES advocates anthropocentrism and human in harmony with the nature."Human scale" should be used to examine the relationship between human and nature, which indicates that man and nature is dialectical unification. The western ecological socialism theory predicts that the ecological socialism is the ideal pattern of the future society. It has a positive significance in comprehensive understanding contemporary capitalism correctly, upholding and developing socialism, and strengthening the people confidence of socialism replacing capitalism. Western ecological socialism theory makes socialist principles infuse environmental principles. The TWES, as the right choice of ecological environment protection, is exploring a new model of socialism. The TWES, which is consciously used by the ecological socialists, provides new prospect for developing Marxist. At the same time, The TWES has deepened our understanding of the nature of modern capital, and promoted the sustainable development road in our country. The TWES plays an important role in the constructing of a harmonious society.The theory of the western ecological socialism, as a kind of green political theory, is an ideal for good life, but at the same time, there also exist some obvious theoretical defects, such that its criticism on the capitalist system is not thoroughly, and there is still illusory in exploring the future society model. We can’t say it has found a feasible way to overthrow the capitalist system.The western ecological socialism has been born for just over40years. Its theory is not mature and perfect. But, it puts forward many theoretical and practical problems worth thinking and discussion, such as emphasis on the ecological environmental protection consciousness, social and the natural harmonious coexistence, advocating economic moderate growth and moderate consumption idea, etc. These thoughts have some certain enlightenment function for our country’s ecology civilization construction.
